Bengals Release Thurman, Who Was Suspended Last 2 Years

CINCINNATI --The Cincinnati Bengals have released troubled linebacker Odell Thurman one month after he was reinstated by the NFL from a two-year suspension.

The Bengals say Thurman wasn't meeting expectations. Thurman failed to attend the team's three voluntary workouts last week.

Thurman's agent says the linebaker had been working out at Paul Brown Stadium but went to Georgia for the funeral of his grandmother, who raised him, and remained there to take care of family matters.

The move comes one month after the Bengals released receiver Chris Henry following his fifth arrest.

Thurman was suspended for the 2006 season by commissioner Roge Goodell after he skipped a drug test and was arrested for drunken driving. The suspension was extended through the 2007 season.
