COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Columbus Blue Jackets are reaching into the South for a minor-league affiliate.

General manager Scott Howson announced Tuesday that the club has reached an agreement with the Gwinnett Gladiators to serve as the East Coast Hockey League affiliate for the Blue Jackets and the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch for the 2009-10 season.

The Blue Jackets had been affiliated with the ECHL's Johnstown Chiefs last year. Syracuse remains the NHL club's top minor-league squad.

Gwinnett will continue to also have a working agreement with the Atlanta Thrashers.

It is expected that the Blue Jackets will send three or four players to Gwinnett in the upcoming season.
