COLUMBUS, Ohio -- NHL rookie of the year Steve Mason will be getting instruction from a familiar face.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have hired Dave Rook as the club's goaltending coach, general manager Scott Howson announced on Tuesday. Rook, who was Mason's goaltending coach with the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights, began working with the Blue Jackets during this week's development camp.

The 41-year-old Rook served as a goaltending consultant for the St. Louis Blues from 2006-2009.

Rook, who succeeds Clint Malarchuk with the Blue Jackets, played professionally in Europe for five seasons before working for teams around his London, Ontario, home. Under Rook, Mason was the OHL's goaltender of the year in 2006-2007.

Mason won the Calder Trophy last season while going 33-20-7 with an NHL-best 10 shutouts.
