COLUMBUS, Ohio -- For the 5th time in the past 3 years, Thad Matta says so-long to a Buckeye freshman.
Center B.J. Mullens announced Thursday that he will enter the NBA Draft after one year at Ohio State. Mullens is a 7-footer from Canal Winchester who impresses NBA scouts with his size and potential. Some draft experts say he could be a 1st round pick in the draft this summer.
Mullens came off the bench for OSU this season and was named the Big Ten's 6th Man of the Year. He averaged 8.8 points per game, but failed to reach some of the expectations fans held for him. He was considered the nation's #1 recruit coming out of Canal Winchester High School last year.
In a release from Ohio State, coach Thad Matta said “On one hand, I feel another year in school would have allowed him to develop into the player I know he can be and an additional season would have been beneficial to him both personally and monetarily in the long run. On the other hand, I am empathetic to the reasons why he has chosen to leave at such an early point in his career. I wish him nothing but the best and know he will always be a part of our basketball family at Ohio State.”
Mullens joins Greg Oden, Mike Conley, Daequan Cook and Kosta Koufos as recent Buckeye freshmen to declare for the NBA Draft.
