Paterno Feeling Great And Back In Charge

»  Comments | Post a Comment

NEW YORK -- Joe Paterno felt like he was in charge again this spring.

Penn State's 82-year-old coach was back on the field with his surgically replaced hip, more mobile, more energetic and more patient, free of the pain that had dogged him for two years.

Paterno says he "coached this spring" and that last year he was a "supervisor" and an "observer."

Paterno spent almost all of last season coaching from the press box during games and using a golf cart to get around practice because of an aching hip.

After the regular season, he had hip replacement surgery. He says he feels great as he prepares for his 43rd season as the Nittany Lions head coach.

Paterno was in New York for a fundraiser Thursday and spoke with a small group of reporters.
