COLUMBUS, Ohio -- What's brewing today with the 2009 Ohio State Buckeyes ...

BUCKEYES BUZZ: Ohio State officials are stressing to all of the 106,000 fans expected for Saturday's opener against Navy that they should allow plenty of time to negotiate the construction on State Route 315 near the stadium.

Information about the summerlong construction can be found at http://www.BuckeyeTraffic.org/315 and game parking info is at http://tp.osu.edu/Maps/FootballParkingMap.pdf.

Ohio State points out there are several alternatives to parking on central campus:

- A new Park and Ride option at the City Center garage downtown at Rich and High streets. Parking costs $10 and includes shuttle service to and from University Hall, just east of the stadium.

- Free bus service from West Campus begins six hours prior to kickoff and continues for one hour after.

- The Central Ohio Transit Authority provides parking areas at Crosswoods, north of Worthington, or the Ohio Expo Center, located just off I-71. Parking is $5 and roundtrip bus fare is $4 per adult.

- Bike to the game. There will be a bicycle valet service during Ohio State home football games at the east end of the bridge on the south side of Woody Hayes Drive. Donations are accepted.

The Lane Avenue exit will be open in both directions off of 315. In addition, fans approaching the stadium from the north on 315 can get off at Ackerman or Kinnear roads.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: Navy defensive coordinator Buddy Green: "Ohio State's program puts multiple players in the pros every year. They just keep reloading. You could argue that it's the best Division I program in college football over the last 10 years. The talent is as good as you will find anywhere in the country at every position."

ABOUT TO DOCK: Navy is expected to arrive at Ohio Stadium for a walkthrough on Friday at 2 p.m.

QB SWITCH: Coach Jim Tressel said Thursday he intended to play backup QB Joe Bauserman relatively early in Saturday's game - if the situation presented itself.

"We have plans to get him in in that third, fourth, fifth series," he said. "But you're not going to put a quarterback in if they punt us down to the 3."

HONORING SPIELMAN: Two-time All-American LB Chris Spielman will be the 28th Buckeye inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame next year and he will be recognized at halftime of the Navy game. He will be announced with wife Stefanie, who is in the midst of a lengthy battle with breast cancer. Spielman is also working the game as an ESPN analyst.

"I'm sure it'll be an emotional time for Chris," Tressel said. "It'll be special."

Austin Spitler, who will start at LB for Ohio State, said Spielman was one of the best ever at the position.

"If you know anything about the linebacker tradition at Ohio State, Spielman is one of the first guys who comes to mind," he said. "You hear a lot about him. He really set this program apart as a linebacker. He helped start the tradition here."
