COLUMBUS, Ohio -- What's brewing today with the 2009 Ohio State Buckeyes ...
BUCKEYES BUZZ: Ohio State didn't get surprised - until Sunday.
The Buckeyes walked all over Toledo 38-0 on Saturday at Cleveland Browns Stadium. It was a feel-good win, something that the Buckeyes needed after a week of turmoil in the wake of the USC loss.
No, the real surprise came on Sunday. Despite the lopsided win and shutout, the Buckeyes dropped two spots in the Associated Press Top 25.
The Buckeyes now stand 13th, bookended by USC at No. 12 and Cincinnati at No. 14.
The top two remained the same: Florida and Texas. USC, third a week ago after the win in Columbus, fell nine spots after losing at Washington.
Alabama is now No. 3, followed by Mississippi at No. 4.
The highest-ranked Big Ten team, Penn State, is at No. 5, followed by California, LSU, Boise State and Miami (up 11 spots to No. 9).
Next come four one-loss teams: Oklahoma at No. 10, Virginia Tech, USC and the Buckeyes.
Michigan is now No. 23. Florida State, which lost to Miami two weeks ago, climbed from unranked to No. 18 with a win at BYU, which tumbled 12 spots to No. 19.
WATCH OUT: UC sits just one spot and 71 points behind the Buckeyes.
The last time that another Ohio team was ranked ahead of Ohio State?
The poll that came out on Nov. 13, 2004, had Bowling Green at No. 25 and the Buckeyes unranked.
Before that, Toledo was No. 23 in the final poll of 2001 with Ohio State not making the grade.
WELCOME, OHIOANS: Since Ohio teams began dotting the Ohio State schedule in 1992 after a lapse of six decades, the Buckeyes have won all 20 games. The average score in those games is 35-16.
