It's not considered the usual way to prepare for the rigors of an NHL season, but it's the little things that make winners. Several Blue Jackets added painting Tuesday to their preseason workouts.
Marc Methot, Mike Commodore and Steve Mason took the newly prepared ice at Nationwide Arena to help paint the team colors on the ice surface. The players took caution in laying down deep shades of red and blue on the ice, although Mason took time to write his name on the ice in giant letters.
"The last time I remember painting was my dad's birdhouse in grade 5 and other than that I have zero experience." said Methot.
Twenty-two players are already in Columbus going through informal workouts before the start of training camp. The Jackets open preseason play September 21 at Atlanta.
